Portrait with cat

I spend far too much time reflecting on how many friends I no longer see of late.

Part of the problem, I guess, is that I live in the Rust Belt, in a city from which people have been fleeing in droves over the past several years. I know there are more opportunities elsewhere, but it still really sucks to see my friends take off for parts unknown in the hopes of finding something better.

It wouldn't be so bad if we could correspond regularly, but I have this annoying habit of losing touch with my friends out-of-state. Well, either that, or they drop off the face of the planet and don't even answer my e-mails asking if they're still alive. *sighs*

I miss my old friends. I want to sit in a booth in Denny's and chat until the wee hours of the morning over cokes and really unhealthy fried food. I want to be able to sit together around a table and roll dice and gossip about our characters. I want to call them up on the phone and talk to them about what's going on in my head for hours.

I haven't seen some of them since they left, and it still hurts sometimes. I miss having someone to talk to, someone who understands what I mean when I talk about roleplaying, or filk, or anime, or any of my other crazy gamer/fangirl obsessions....

Loneliness sucks.
