Goodbye, Mixmaster

My stand mixer bit the dust yesterday. I was using it to make bread dough, and whatever turns the beaters went. *sigh*

I made some phone calls, and no one around here can repair it. Apparently, Sunbeam doesn't supply parts for the model I have. And considering how heavy that thing is, the shipping to send it in to the manufacturer would be murder (that's assuming it's worth it to get the thing fixed).

I've been doing research online, and so far the Kitchen Aid brand seems like a good bet for a replacement.

Anyone with a stand mixer have any recommendations?

I love my Kitchenaid with a passion. I have attachments to grind meat, grate cheese.. a couple of others. They have all kinds of nifty gadgets you can add to them. They do, of course, take up counter space. But I've had mine for some 12 years, toted it across the country and thru about 5 moves and it's still peachy.
